A pupil of the celebrated Italian engraver Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815), Innocente Alessandri was an accomplished Venetian engraver. He is best known for the numerous plates he produced in collaboration with his friend and colleague, the engraver Pietro Scataglia, for Descrizione delgi Animali, an important four-volume publication on quadrupeds that was initially published in monthly fascicles.
